I live in District 1, right in the middle of it, and I see both the richness of the Peninsula and the real challenges that come with it.
Crowd surges, limited parking, unsafe e-bike riding, street fights, excessive noise, and disorder are not abstract policy issues to me. They are part of what my neighbors and I experience in our daily lives.
Visitors eventually go home. The crowds die down. Those of us who live here remain.
That is why residents must come first. Before the tourism economy. Before short-term rentals. Before the interests of people who treat our neighborhoods like a temporary playground.
I want to bring more long-term residents back to the Peninsula. I want vacant lots and empty buildings filled with thoughtfully selected businesses that serve our community and attract the right kind of activity. I want comprehensive public-safety plans that prepare us for major crowds and ensure mutual-aid resources are available when our police officers are overwhelmed.
